The Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP) has awarded a prestigious Excellence in Publishing Award for biographies of a new book on Mother Teresa written by an expert from the University of Birmingham.

Dr. Gëzim Alpion, an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Birmingham, presents a comprehensive depiction of Mother Teresa in his book "Mother Teresa: The Saint and Her Nation."

This book examines Mother Teresa's life and work, considering her family background, cultural and ethnic influences, personal struggles and triumphs, and complex spirituality. It also delves into new information about her family, Albania's spiritual traditions before and after Christianity's arrival, and the influence of the Vatican and other powerful entities on her people throughout history.

Published by Bloomsbury Academic, the book has received positive reviews and attention from scholars and media outlets, including being featured on the front cover of The Tablet and in LIFE Magazine. Dr. Alpion, the author, has delivered lectures on the book at esteemed institutions such as Harvard and Georgetown University.

For the past 20 years, Dr. Alpion has dedicated his studies to Mother Teresa, focusing on the sociology of religion, nationalism, fame, race, media, film, and authorship. He is widely regarded as the most authoritative author on St. Teresa of Calcutta and the founder of Mother Teresa Studies.

Recently, he was honored with the Mother Teresa Award by the President of Albania, recognizing his valuable academic contribution to the thorough study of Saint Mother Teresa's life and work and his efforts to promote her Albanian national value worldwide.

Dr. Alpion expressed his gratitude after receiving love and recognition from people around the world: “The study of Mother Teresa has been a passion of mine for 20 years, and it is wonderful that throughout that time there are still new discoveries being made and people still feel a deep and personal connection with her as a person, with her story and her work.”
